How the destroyed city of Izyum, located in the Kharkiv region, survived and lives From Kharkiv to Izyum, liberated from the Russian occupiers, it is a two-hour drive on broken roads past fields with unharvested wheat. On both sides of the track are burnt Russian armored vehicles and corpses of Russian soldiers, which have not yet been removed. The movement to Iziumis slow, because the road is broken by artillery, and some shells are still unexploded. Avoiding ravines and climbing requires vigilance. At the entrance to the de-occupied city, undetonated flamethrower charges of the Russian “Solntsepek” toss are lying next to a car that burned to the ground. To get to the right bank of the Siverskyi Donets River, in the southern part of Izyum, you need to wait in line for the Pontoon Bridge, because other bridges in the city have been destroyed.

There is still no electricity in the city. Mobile communication is still only available on the mountain. Or citizens can ask the Ukrainian military for access to Starlink. There is a constant crowd of people on Mount Kremenets: so far, this is the only place in Iziumwhere mobile communication is available. An incredible view of the raisin roofs opens from here, and at the same time a great tragedy. In this place, people paid with their lives for a phone call from the occupation. Several dozen corpses were found on the hill. The central heating system in Izium was also destroyed. Almost all boiler houses were bombed.
