The world’s largest radio telescope, the Ukrainian T-shaped Radio telescope, second modification (UTR-2) was damaged by Russian occupiers in the Kharkiv region. During Russian occupation, the territory of the research observatory in the Chuhuiv district was occupied by Russian military personnel. They damaged equipment and destroyed buildings. Russian occupiers were in the territory of the station for several months. They made trenches and left behind a lot of ammunition and their remains. Crushed equipment, destroyed buildings, broken vehicles, rooms covered in garbage. Russians entertained themselves by shooting at a target painted on the wall. Shells are scattered all over the territory. Even when running from Ukrainian troops, who quickly liberated Kharkiv region, Russians could not resist – they stole the boiler and the washing machine. The amount of damages will be determined by investigators. They carefully recorded all the consequences of the presence of Russian occupiers in the territory where scientists worked for decades and made many world-class discoveries.
