Shooting of evacuation buses and civilians burned alive A terrible tragedy occurred in Borova village of Izium district on April 14, 2022, when a column of Russian military equipment entered the village. It was the second day of occupation of the settlement. Russian soldiers shot two evacuation buses with civilians. People were going to their homes in Luhansk region. The Russians insidiously, cynically and purposefully began to shoot from a large-caliber machine gun and small arms at the buses with people. So far, the death of at least nine people has been established: they burned alive in the bus. It was also established that thirteen people survived and were taken to a local hospital. According to Serhii Bolvinov, head of the investigative department, the local residents informed the police about the April events. “They [the Russians] initially let the cars pass, but the two minibuses that were moving in the convoy were shot. Everyone saw that they were civilians, Serhiy Bolvinov said. – The shooting took place with the use of large-caliber machine guns mounted on an armored personnel carrier, and then they were fired with firearms – Kalashnikov assault rifles.” Andriy Savchenko works as a fire truck driver and was on duty on April 14. He remembers seeing civilians being shot. Due to the large number of enemy vehicles, the wounded could not be reached, but they were still taken to the local hospital. Andriy says that it is simply impossible to explain such criminal actions of the occupiers. “We thought they didn’t like some kind of equipment, or were afraid of military equipment, but there was no military equipment here,” Andrii recalls. “They stupidly shot two civilian buses.” Local resident Oleksandr Derevnin buried the remains of the dead with his friends a month later. Immediately after the shooting, it was impossible – the occupation authorities did not allow it. “People wanted to bury them, but the “local government” did not give permission for burial, and they were there for about a month. On May 11, I discovered them, and they were buried with friends at the cemetery.”
